In this latest add-on for VodafoneZiggo’s Giganet, we went back through time to recall technology innovations dismissed in decades past. Phones... sure, they became handy. Internet, yeah. Ok, Giganet could be quite big.
For color grading, the biggest challenge was how to quickly distinguish between the different time periods. Together with the DOP we tried some different styles, such as ageing the picture with the use of softening, halation and grain to give an older look. While this looked interesting, it didn’t quite feel right for a modern Ziggo campaign. So we adopted the philosophy that the flashbacks were, in fact, a modern reimagining of the time period, and therefore should feel rooted in the present day. With this in mind, each flashback is colored with its own unique look to suit the art direction but without any textural tropes of the time periods.
Meanwhile, we were having a lot of fun with nostalgic eighties notes for the sound design. Capturing the old sound of a computer modem meant a very deep dive into our archives to find just the dial-up.
